For someone that is looking for something utterly exceptional – we at Scandia can offer slab tables in many shapes and woods. Mitch Talcove, the owner of Tropical Hardwoods supplies us with a wide array of some of the most stunning hardwood slabs from all over the world.

We can turn the lumber into dining and coffee tables as well as desks and conference tables. The allure of wood of that nature comes from the fact that it is entirely only one of a kind. A desk or table of that class will become an instant treasure and artifact to decorate the owner’s home or office for a lifetime.

As woodworkers and wood aficionados we willingly confess that shaping a wild slab of Parote or Cocobolo is among the most exciting work we are ever involved in. It is hard labor at times but the spectacular results are well worth it all.

On this page there is a slab of Kauri that was dug out of an ancient peat bog on the North Island in New Zeeland. The wood has been radio carbon dated and comes with a signed certificate authenticating the age of more than 50,000 years! This is not petrified wood. It is “live” and true wood that we worked with normal machines and hand tools.

The piece can be made into a coffee or dining table. We are however of the opinion that it would make a truly spectacular desk.
